dumb question, but I see a ton of people stacked AF so I'm wondering how they die at like lvl 98 with a full set of gear, juvies, chicken etc

Walk in poison clouds near nihlitak with your mercenary

Their hp goes below 1

usually due to lag once your char is setup, also a few different pvm situations are dangerous at all lvls regardless of gear, monsterpacks with conviction/fire/light chant, amp/extra fast/extra dmg/ nihl snakes, popping corpses etc.
its actually pretty easy to die if youre not watching out for those things

People play bad then die

This is what makes d2 hc so entertaining imo. With good gear your char can stomp p8 99% of the time, but like voltron says suddenly there are situations where you can die quite easily.

Also when grinding lvl 95+ exp lots of people probably watch netflix while baaling.

theres always something, that can kill you. even if you know what to do.

sure you know not to move around in nihla snakes poison clouds but when youre getting charged, nihla amp's you and hands out CEs it doesnt help
then dolls when somebody else pops them while your near them, some nice off screen lightning fury e.g
conv souls, doesnt matter how careful you are - can rip offscreen
last thing i can think of is bugged enchanted monsters, when a boss is double enchanted the lightning bolts carry the elemental damage of the other enchant - does massive damage and can oneshot you
