i am not suprised, something similar is happening for a long time in germany
asylum seekers facing deportation suddenly claim, that they are taliban or isis members and would face capital punishment in their home country

what a nice situation that is, illegals without documentation, with no right to even enter the country are suddenly self proclaimed terrorists and that status gives them protection
the exact opposite of what should happen, which is deportation if the identity can be researched or indefinite detainment

the laws protecting people from deportation to places with capital punishment/political persecution were not created for violent scum
clearly this needs to be modified if not scrapped completely to be replaced with clear criteria

when laws are abused to put the state/society they are supposed to protect in danger, they need to be changed
