Given the price of daggers, i'm hesitant to try and purchase a full set as well as armours. So highly considering casting it as i have a set of daggers, charms and robes.

I will probably make an attempt next climb, i'm "expecting" to melee until level 20-30 where i then hope to begin casting. If i can get to level 35 i'm pretty sure than my setup is strong enough to climb with no issues as well as an option to be super tanky with high vit/int.


Just wanted some opinions who've gone caster samurai as 10 starting int is a bit daunting!
Do you melee at all?
If so, what level do you stop melee and start casting?
anything else?

well. Currently it's a massive flop. Hit level 30 and i think i'm still better off melee than casting. Will try changing to my int robe but I dont think it's gonna improve things.
This is a good 46+ points into intel when it could have been into dex which would have certainly made level 20-30 a lot faster.

Thoughts? Anyone?

Am i really better off with some 70-80ee daggers on samurai?
it seems plausable given samurai starts with 40 more dex than int, which in terms of daggers translates to ~40ee.

Your int is so low at all points of the game, and mana pool so small, even a 100 ee dagger would be more optimal than a 200 ee charm. Unless you have extremely good tailored gear, off casting on most classes just isn't worth it. I tried for a while for same reason bro. I didn't want to invest in other sets. But it's miserable, and really caused me to hate the game for a while. Just shitty melee gear, even for solo, is better than trying to cast.

thank you. Given my test has come up with basically the same result (although i think you're example is extreme, 200 ee charms should be fine ) I will probably reroll and start looking for daggers :/

I literally had a 203 ee 55 fire and I preferred a 122 55 dagger bro. Not all that extreme. Gl on the collection (Which is half the fun of this game anyway)

The only thing I have to add to this discussion is that even with really cool offcaster gear and 160!int on samurai by lvl 55, my primary motivation for going caster samurai in the first place was so I could have more time to skill up suffusencing while regenning in town

And it did not disappoint!

i have done caster sammy and caster pally and etc. etc.
and now, its fine. you can almost always find enough Items to regen using the shrine, so there is lots of shrining yes, but you can consistently play.

the problem is is that your Gear is on the low end, particularly for higher levels, so it will be slower, but meele is still overwhelmingly slower compared to a caster using the same average EE gear.

i prefer caster to meele in every sense because of the higher damage and the ability to heal yourself using the same stat input as you get damage, so its a double boost.

a second problem is you are using a f*ing robe and not even padded on a character that LIVES to use Scales. Buy a 50intel scale/leather and you will double your Climbing speed.

Using a robe on an off caster sorta removes the biggest advantage they have... Honestly if you want a relaxing climb just build as intended.

I definitely agree with Warfox, the draw of not having to buy multiple sets to climb makes offcasting an attractive option until you realize that even basic melee gear + tank armors will climb at a faster overall speed.

you are using a 109ee MQ ice, just buy a 109 ee mq dagger and you will be fine. they are cheap until you start getting in the 160ee + range
i casted before on softcore monk with really good gear, it wasnt bad but looking back i shoulda bought daggers :/
I didnt make that mistake when i went to hc

To be fair the only reason to offcast is early on in the seasons before warlocks come around
