Yes, it is important to keep bacteria from your breath off your samples. It's why even before the pandemic I spent many hours a week wearing masks. Bacteria plating and streaking without antibiotics, doing any kind of mouse work where your mice are immunocompromised, not necessary for cell culture but helpful as an extra precaution, etc. etc.
