I didn't even need to do anything to make you look like a fool. You do that to yourself quite well already.

I don't know what heaven is or what it's supposed to look like. An eternal orgasm? Even that sounds painful. Death to me seems like no more anything. Go to sleep, no dreams, no waking, just gone. Rest, finally.

But that's not what I'm here to talk about. I read this topic quite frequently, and the responses are... Not good. Effectively, there are a lot of people coming in and insulting other people for having faith. Okay, fine, do what you will, but what's the purpose in faith?

We all have faith that our doctors are not misleading us, that our accountant is not ripping us off, that our spouse won't stab us in our sleep. But what about things that're a tad less tangible. What if you're high stress, always borderline red, and nothing helps bring you down to earth? What happens when you believe nothing, and have no center that makes you consider other people as anything other than feed for your machine, since YOU are the hero of your life? Faith in something above and beyond the natural, the ability to give yourself over to prayer (meditation), the ability to not control something in your life with an iron fist, gives a level of peace and tranquility. It helps bring down to earth those who have very little else to prevent them from eating you.

I'm not arguing in favor of any doctrine, or any faith, or even any particular manner of worship. Merely that this constant, nonstop attack on religion as somehow "bad" is misguided at best, and actively harmful at worst. What is wrong with somebody else praying before meals and bed and going to a guilt trip o rama once a week? How're they harming you? If it brings them peace and tranquility, and prevents them from being the kind of toxic shitlord who will insult others based on beliefs that are simply inarguable, as you can neither prove or disprove them, where's the harm? Why would anyone waste their time trying to tell people that their religion is "wrong" when they are not using their religion to justify bad behavior?

People need to calm down a bit. Not because religion is bad, but because the attack on people's core belief for no other reason than "it's not what I believe" is seriously toxic and accomplishes absolutely nothing.
