is it possible to install laptop gpu to desktop?

I have read that the motherboards are different so the slots will be different, but is there anything like an add-on that I can buy online that will allow me to do this?

Laptop GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M

Desktop Motherboard: asus m5a97

why with that gpu
technically
there are mxm to pcie risers but goodluck finding one and getting it to work
