That's good to know, considering Embiid is as good as anyone in the NBA at drawing fouls....I would say he's the James Harden of big men, but he's really the Embiid of guards rofl.
2016-2017 season Embiid drew 10 fouls per 36 minutes, which is insane. The next closest was Cousins at 8.6
2017-2018 season Embiid drew 7.7 fouls per 36 minutes, which only one player (Cousins at 7.8 fouls per game) was better.
In the 2017-2018 playoffs Embiid drew more fouls per 36 (7.0) than LeBron did (6.9). Only Anthony Davis and Aldridge drew more and they just barely edged him out at 7.3 and 7.1
Sooo yeah, you're right. Drawing fouls and being unguardable 1 on 1 is pretty cool.
I did see Orlando Shaq, and he was still a bad P&R defender who couldn't defend outside of the paint and got into foul trouble all the fucking time....even though he was really agile for a guy of his size at that stage and was simply a freak of nature physically, he was still not a great defender like Embiid is already....
There's a reason it took Shaq 7 years in the NBA to finally be selected to an All-Defense team, and he was never even remotely in the DPOY discussion (like Embiid has already been in his first two seasons). As agile and athletic as Orlando Shaq was, he still was known for getting lazy and taking plays off on defense because he cared so much about getting the ball on the low block on the offensive end. While he had physical qualities to be a better defender than he was, he didn't put anywhere near the amount of effort that Embiid puts in on defense, that's a fact.
I mean I love Shaq, huge fan of him, but the guys bread and butter was dominating the LOW POST and the LOW POST only.
you're kind of missing my point. youre saying todays nba is faster and much more athletic. while you acknowledge the fact that orlando shaq was agile and a freak of nature physically. im saying orlando shaq aka rookie shaq wouldve been able to easily adapt to the new nba but the lakers/heat shaq we see is all he needed to be to dominate the game. embiid is good but to compare him to shaq is disrespectful. even if we're talking about year 2000 shaq (shaq started in 1996 and embiid in 2014 and today being 2018, 4 years later would make 2000 shaqs 4 year anniversary) shaq wouldve already had 6 allstars, 1 championship, 1 finals mvp, 1 mvp and 2 scoring titles.
