There is sort of a timer though. The crawler moves and will leave you in the darkness to die if too slow. And the flares are also temporary.

its a large enough sample to get a conclusion. statistically this is valid evidence, after this you guys are the ones who need to show evidence that poe is getting more players

every new league the viewers on twitch have been jumping up by alot, and even after 1 month it still gets a moderate amount of viewers

well umm that qualifies as proof but i dont think that shows number of players accurately ! poe is a relatively new game, streamers in a new game are kinda like if you played agar.io: there are a lot of balloons in the beginning, but they are tiny. eventually as some balloons eat other balloons, they get bigger, but there is ofc less balloons in total! basically unlike a few years ago we now have a few popular streamers, where others died off. also professional streamers sometimes come to poe with a part of their audience. also it doesnt relate much to people who actually play, i remember when i played i never watched streams!

so yeah, steam numbers are more valid because it is a randomly taken sample, and a large one at that! thats how that idiot angela merkel is still #1 in germany, she does a poll with lets say 1000 people, then makes her "opinion" based on that sample. if you remember, she was "for natural family and opposed to gay marriage" 15 years ago, while now shes all "pro choice". and as long as you dont fuck up the base sample (like leftists did in usa), statistics will do everything for you !

ye and none of the streamers actually uses steam either so its more likely to make other people not use it as well
people who use steam are people trying the game for the first time if they see it on free to play on steam or people who use steam wallet to purchase mtx (like me)

i still think more viewers on twitch has to mean more people interested in the game and hence more players but i could be wrong

thats the beauty of statistics, we dont need to know ! the point is this: if some thing or change applies to a sample that is large enough, it will have a large enough chance to apply to the entire population from which that sample was taken ! and in general statistics you can assume that even a sample that is 30 or higher is valid, while steam has a sample of more than 1000 times that !

so this is how you do it: if you take steam players as a sample of the poe players population, and harbinger had 25k more players than bestiary in that sample, even if you assume steam players are only 1/10 of the poe population, the chance that it applies to the entire population is so huge that it exceeds the level of 5-6 sigma, which i think was the level where something is considered as scientific truth, i mean if you make a hypothesis which is worthy enough and you prove it with 5 sigma, you get a nobel prize basically you can say with 99.999...% of accuracy that poe had less players in abyss than in garbinger. now that is probably due to the 10 act expansion that came out back then, but the reason isnt needed at start, just the numbers!
