Methods tried:

using the demo and overwriting the gamefiles

my issue is it runs with wine but freezes if i try to go to bnet or it freezes 5 seconds after main menu pops up.

no matter what I cant get into a game, single or multiplayer.

Which version and branch of WINE is everybody using?

My previous Ubuntu 16.04 machine used a staging version of WINE (before 3.0 was released) and ran okay.

Currently struggling to get things running on my Ubuntu 18.04 computer.

sorry, haven't found the reason yet

i might have found the reason. d2 added some functions ( extrawork ? ) in december of 2017, which are not stable enough.

edit: or wait, maybe not, this seems to be older... i don't know
