Just bought a dirt cheap 7970 off the E of Bay because it seemed like an easy fix. Check the description below and I'll post and update once I get it and troubleshoot.


"This listing is for a reference Sapphire HD 7970. The card was working fine but started to regularly crash my display driver whenever doing anything utilizing the GPU (even Microsoft Word). I have no idea what's wrong with it, but I could still play games on it sometimes. Maybe it's an easy fix, maybe it's fried. I have no idea."


The guys other listings are for stupid pomemon shit, so hes not a parts flipper and clearly didnt try very hard to fix it before selling

You can say *** Also it sounds like the card was overheating. It's considerably old so the paste is probably drying out. Replace all the cooling shit and give it a whirl.

Yeah I've seen a few Youtube videos of people grabbing these cards sub $70 and finding the card was Skyrockecting to 90'C + and crashing the driver in mundane tasks.

just replacing the TIM fixed them, hoping this falls in the same boat.

I'm gonna use some liquid metal because it's a Reference blower cooler on a hot GPU, gotta keep that fan speed down.

You'll waste your money. Just use normal thermal grease. That reference blower can get loud but damn does it work well. It pushes all the hot air out the back without leaks.
