The Phillies aren't in a bad position at all, I think you're overreacting a bit.
Before the season, people were considering them a darkhorse playoff sleeper pick who could definitely go .500+ and a team on the rise with a nice future. Now they have a rough start to the season and all hope is lost and we need to burn the entire organization to the ground?
I mean come on, there's going to be a major learning curve when you have a rookie MLB Manager who his entire managerial experience before this season consisted of 139 games at Class A Greenville Drive in the Red Sox farm system in 2007.
I'm not saying he will work out, I'm not saying he won't work out, I mean shit he could be the next Chip Kelly for all I know. All I'm saying is we gotta chill, it's wayyyy too early to get the torches out. Talk to me about 30 or 40 games and then i'll consider jumping in the riot.
Nice future, exactly, except we're not putting any of those future pieces to succeed thus far.
Odubel got a nice extension, benched. Kingery future 2B, benched. JP Crawford, benched and then brought in randomly in blow games, Rhys Hoskins future 1B playing in LF. Can't decide which Catcher is defensively worse in Knapp and Alfaro.
We're playing quasi-veterans with a rookie manager. .500 was the expectation but now it seems like that's a success, that's pretty sad.
And when we're talking about Rookie Manager, i'm not sure where this guy even came from, but he never managed at any competitive level before in his life, I don't think he's even managed a baseball team period.
If we're playing .250 ball 40 games later, oh god, there goes any hopes of getting Machado/Harper. This is the season where we're supposed to see a lot of improvements but none of that is happening and once again, no direction what so ever.
