It has worked out quite well for the other guys that missed their first year...

Noel missed his first season....then had a great rookie season (historically great defensively).

Embiid missed his first two seasons....

Saric played overseas for his first two seasons..

Simmons missed his first season...

It's the trend for the Sixers. Sit out your top prized prospects their first year, build them up and get them conditioned and physically ready for the league, then BOOM success. Next thing you know other teams will start copying that too rofl.

I mean a lot of them was by design, like Noel, Saric and Embiid...

All of these guys were highly touted and would have gone very high in the draft (Noel and Embiid were locks for #1 overall) had it not been for getting injured before the draft. Saric would have gone a lot higher than he did (#12) had news not just broke like a week before the draft that he signed a 3 or 4 year contract to play with his overseas team and likely wouldn't be available to play in the NBA for a few years.

Luckily under Hinkie in his rebuild tank phase, he didn't care about them being available right away (since the team wasn't looking to compete yet anyway). The Sixers knew all along that Noel, Embiid and Saric wouldn't play their rookie season, and getting them in the position that he did was great value.

Either way, Hinkie is da real MVP.

While 76ers have great future, it's just funny that DM can put such a positive spin on his rookies being injured the first year.

No, because as I just mentioned the Sixers drafted these guys KNOWING they were injured already, because of the value....how is this hard to understand? Hinkie took them BECAUSE of their position.

Noel was the consensus #1 pick in the 2013 draft going to the Cavs , then he tore his ACL towards the end of his college season and his stock dropped dramatically and he was drafted #6 overall. Anthony Bennett was taken #1 by the Cavs instead.

Embiid was the consensus #1 pick in the 2014 draft to the Cavs as well, and then he broke his foot right before the draft and he slipped to #3 (since the Bucks were taking Jabari Parker #2 regardless). Andrew Wiggins was taken #1 by the Cavs instead.

Long story short, it worked out well because the Sixers took the players that the Cavs passed up on (because of injuries) in both cases, and in both cases the Sixers got the better player LOL.

Simmons is different, because he was injured AFTER he was drafted which they obviously didn't plan for.
