So let me get you up to speed where I am getting stuck!

As you see in the image I listed below, I am trying to follow a youtube guide that gives a Dispersion effect on the photo.
Now at one point - I'm suppose to create a mask (as I did below) and select the mask and make sure the foreground color is black>white

Then select a brush tool and brush over the photo with my selected effect and IT SHOULD BE putting a black effect on the photo in the MASK LAYER not the original photo layer.

BUT as we can see, the mask layer color shown (in my layer's tab) that the background is white ... so why can't I see my effect putting put on the white mask layer with my black effect outlines?

My only issue is in the guide the guy is doing, he has it setup exactly as I do, and yet his white effect color still show's up as black smudges on his white base layer ...

So confused and hope to get this resolved

what you need to do -
double left click on mask
option window will popout
-> like dis, then check for this
