which is why you recommended something out of his budget?
i dont think he needs a new cpu
his is like
plenty for hearthstone/d3
his os is probably a dumpster fire
fresh install and/or SSD fix

HIS TITLE

LITERALLY SAYS

HE WANTS TO UPGRADE HIS CPU

SO.. NEW SSD (assuming a re-format of wndows/new installation), and a i7 2600 or 2600k.

Would be an AMAZING upgrade.

Thanks guys. I will spend if thats my only option. But i will try out a fresh install and getting a SSD. Two questions though:

1) I had a terrible time getting Windows 7 to update as Microsoft no longer supports. You guys reckon my PC could upgrade to windows 10 and work fine? I was on windows 10 previously (through the free upgrade period) before I formatted my PC a year back, not sure if the Windows 10 is still an option for me.

2) I have no idea whats a SSD is before this, but after googling, it seems like i dont need a mega size SSD, its purpose is to have the windows installation on it, and quite possibly some core applications. The other stuff can still be installed on my HDD. Question: if thats the case, what are the things I should be looking out for in a SSD? Is there any compatibility issue seeing my current spec is pretty old school.

1)W10 is very solid, i would switch from w7 to w10 anyday. As for your license, Microsoft changed the Windows 10 installer to also accept Windows 7. You'll be able to make a clean W10 install and activate it with your current W7 key.

2) You need enough room on your SSD to fit your operating system and the frequent programs/games u use. you can keep your current HDD to store media files such as images, movies, music, less played games and what not. As for what model to get, i personally would go with a 240gb with over 500 mb/s read/write, something along those lines https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0742BC3DQ . Connection is a typical SATA cable just like your current HDD and ODD, so no compatibility problem

I went to a hardware store and saw a lot of different specs for SSD. Was told to check my motherboard to make sure its compatible in terms of SATA/E-SATA (?), clock speed, and potential heating issue. Does the below shows these details for me to go back to him?

I did a "dxdiag" on cmd to get the below.
