Zero chance, still more of a chance than McDavid though, I guess you could say he has a subzero chance at a cup

Contract ruined any chance of him every getting a cup.

I would imagine he accepted that when he signed the deal.

The chance for him to win was years ago when he was making ~ 6.5 not the 8.5 he is making now as he ages.

The Rangers have lots of depth overall but they lack that impact gamebreaker to put them over.

The Pens can run Crosby and Malkin/Kessel and sign cheap players ~ 2-3 per instead of 4-5 million to fill out the top 6 because those guys can carry the line. That is something few teams have.

As a result they all have to spend way more money on their top 6 when all is said and done. Despite the fact those 3 players have huge contracts it is actually at par or cheaper when you think of how much cheaper they can fill out the top 6 with other teams.

Lundqvist taking the extra 2/2.5 mil (which he deserves) prevents the Rangers from trading for, or being able to sign that gamebreaker player due to cap hit. There is very little room to work with in the cap era.

Look at how much Chicago has suffered as a result of the Kane/Toews contracts. They can't get the depth anymore and have to trade talented young players before their elc's are up because they can't afford it. They can still throw cheaper alternatives on the line, but don't have the leverage they used to.

I feel for the King. He will go down as arguably the best goalie to never win a cup.
