Does that mean basically wipe the computer clean? Is this easy to do with mac os?

Or should i just buy an external and place any/all file i need there and do it?

Yes you should do that before formatting. (back up only media files)

So i did this and ended up losing everything, I saved my important file/pic/pdfs etc to cloud storage but guess it failed.

If I already reimaged my disc, is there anyway to get my lost photos?
