oups yes, the resistance, not the DNA...
"without GMO crops present" ? this means No-GMO instead, meaning those natural crops will be killed so fast ... This example even if true in theory doesnt really apply in reality. Farmers arent killing their crops.
btw are you aware of MON863 ?
It got very, very, discretely removed from european market in 2016, and i have issues understanding why.......
the DNA of the weeds is changed, by natural selection. The weeds that don't die pass their resistance on to future plants and eventually you have many weeds that are resistant.
GMO canola seeds that are modified to be restant allow farmers to spray later stage when weeds are developed further and more are growing and fewer passes. Previously farmers would till more often ( higher fuel costs) and spray early before crop is planted. They would also spray with different sprays several times. One pass for each different type of weed, the crop was still immune to these sprays but it mean spraying multiple times.
What I was trying to clarify was that if you took a field of weeds and sprayed with roundup every year eventually the weeds would be immune , regardless of whether there was GMO canola present or not.
No idea what mon863 is but I might look it up when I have time.
