Unfortunelty I'm not sure the average 17-25 year old follows that anymore. We know that group think is real. Social media has paved the way for people to engage in group think in real time.
You underestimate the silent majority due to the extremely loud monotones of the screaming minority. There are perfectly legitimate viewpoints on ALL sides of the aisle. They are calm, do not accuse, and simply argue their case. I disagree with many cases so intensely (insert: Communists, Anarchists, Socialists) that it's beyond words. Yet I can listen. I can apply a bit of critical thought (do NOT read critical theory, critical THOUGHT) to everything I see and hear. The MAJORITY, can do the same thing.
I'm terrified of public speaking. I delete my words and don't post 99% of the time (I realize this is hard to believe, but it's true). Imagine those who don't go against their own grain. They don't say, "Well, I don't want to do this, but I have something to say, no matter how moronic," and instead say nothing. THOSE are the people you need to convince. Because, in the end, during all the "deplorables" and "xenophobic, racist, sexist, islamaphobic, transphobic, etc. etc. etc." defamation spewed left and right, it was THOSE people who got Trump elected.
The moment the left is ready to forget identity politics and have a conversation again is more than likely the moment the left starts to win again. Which, in my opinion, would suck, as the left is so split, and so much of the split is socialist/communist now...
Welp, done rambling. Hope you enjoyed.
