If simply having negative intent behind a descriptor of a person means it's a slur, fine. But that hasn't been my understanding of the word before.
If it is, practically anything can be a slur. Irish, Christian, Muslim, gay, white male, etc. I thought slurs were particular words to demean, like spook, cracker, faggot, etc.
Yes, practically anything can be a slur based on the context, and what contexts make the word a slur also change over time. It's not a bad example, it's literally the exact same thing happening in both situations. Queer used to be used exclusively as a slur, but was then adopted as part of the LGBTQ community with a more specific meaning.
