Not for a solo alchy

Does anyone know if better item drop quality works for transmuting?
The drop infers to me just monster drops but I’ve never known for sure

I would say no. Just like how you said it. It has to drop as in monster drop. I don't see how muting would equate to "drop"

As for welling, I would guess the Drop Quality will only apply to Side Drops and not the main item.

What does the 50% base quality mean. What part of the item you drop in is boosted by 50%?

Best way to explaing this:

100% Minimum Base Quality of Welled Items = the Main item dropped into the Well will be Rare ... not magical... always a Rare.

So:
50% Maximum Base Quality is referring to change the outcome:

Magical having a 50% chance being Rare
Rare to Mystical
Mystical to Angelic
Angelic to Mythical
Mythical to Arcrane
etc.

Hope this makes sense.
