normal and nightmare, it's all about restricting the affix pool

charms, jewels and jewellery are Qlvl 1 so you simply match the ilvl to the affix level. This is why a quest bugged Andariel (Mlvl 12) is so awesome for vlld affix level 12 jewellery

Qlvl 1 items require ilvl 1 for affix level 1, ilvl 2 for affix level 2 and so forth, but when the Qlvl rises you need higher ilvl's for the same previously mentioned affix levels

for armour/weapons the base Qlvl will be the determinant, some items will require you to be in nm for a high enough ilvl

As an example, if we look at an Ornate Plate (Qlvl 64), for it to spawn 100%ed ('Holy' = affix lvl 36) it requires ilvl 68. Considering the highest area level in nm is 66, only a few bosses, superuniques, uniques, minions and champions can drop this, meaning farming some high density low level areas in hell could be better (e.g. start of act 1)

So it's all about what resources you are willing to dedicate to focus on certain areas. (and if you have a dupe method and the infrastructure to imbue/reroll on a mass level to target ilvl's, <- this is the only real way for this kind of rare item)

Me personally I have farmers doing specific runs and rerolling in norm/nm/hell, most of the level 30 items come from nm. Some items for level 30 are lower req, for example a lot of my fine small charms of sustenance (rlvl 21 | alvl 28) come from normal act 5.

:O haha, I have no idea where you found that?? it's from October? I don't even remember writing it, but yes, there are 3 main resources out there that should be bookmarked, once you know how to use them you can find out where to best find any item

1. base item Qlvl: http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/
2. affixes: http://diablo.gamepedia.com/Affixes_(Diablo_II) (always just look for the one highest level affix you want)
3. alvl, Qlvl, ilvl chart: http://wiki.theamazonbasin.com/index.php/Affix_level_chart#Table

all this is way to complicated for me, its like a science that i will never understand unless im in a classroom and it all gets broken down for me

To be honest with you mate, just get some sorcs doing a range of high density areas throughout nm, unless you have the resources and a dupe method there is no point trying to target hard to find items like gg eth/rep ornates/nagas etc

As I mentioned earlier, a nice eth/rep Ornate with level 30 affixes like 60 life and 100%ed etc need ilvl 68 which means only some bosses, super uniques and uniques/champions in the throne/worldstone can drop it. Now factor in that a base item only has a 5% chance of spawning ethereal, then factor how it needs to spawn as rare not white / magic / set or unique, then factor in the chances of getting the desired affix rolls. It just doesn't happen, those hard to find items are mass imbued/rerolled etc

ahhhh alright man ill just keep running hell and sell junk till i get enough fg to buy the ggs :P
