I play maybe twice a year..But really feel that if I practice a bit I can really improve. .I'm looking to start playing once per week. I actually just played a tournament for work and shot a 76 on a par 70 with like 2 birdies and a lot of pars and then bogies.

- I can drive straight and a decent distance the majority of the time (90%).
- my putting is okay but I still tend to over hit it by a bit.
- my short irons are getting better if I take a few practice swings before shooting and keep the same speed as the practice swing
- my long iron is what kills me. Like anything from 80+ out I can't hit for shit.

Any advice on long iron game and just using irons in general.

Also looking for a semi cheap full set of clubs...I'm using my mom's she gave to me actually...

I live in Canada and I'm a 25 year old male weighing 220 lbs @ 6 feet tall. . If that matters.

You play twice a year and shot a 76 on a par 70?

......am I missing something?

For someone that golfs twice a year that's unheard of?

like im good at it lol, i used to go to the driving range a ton and i just pick up things really fast. i just dont golf that often and pretty much my irons are my struggle. i drive straight and far like 90% of the time and chipping/putting is pretty decent, just mainly long irons..so a lot of the time i just go easy with a hybrid instead of using a long iron

e/ the course was pretty easy like mostly straight away.. a few dog logs but like no water(other than a few small ponds and one river which were easily avoidable. and sand traps where small and few on the course.

Your course must be easy... 76 is really good lol. I am impressed!

As for your problem with long irons.. I have trouble with my 3/4/5 also and tend to use a hybrid or 3 wood as well :D

your first instinct was right the dude is full of shit, playing twice a year means he shoots 90+ and that's being generous
also long irons are not 80+ yards rofl... people can use their sand wedge to hit it farther than 80 yards

I can believe he drives ok 100% of amateurs love using the driver above all else (myself included)

And finally if you play twice a year you will leave plenty of strokes out on the greens, again this dude is BSing you

OP, yes practicing will help, lying will not

this was my original instinct.

just on short game alone, even if they could drive extremely well.. i find it hard to believe that someone playing twice a year can chip and putt well enough to shoot a legit 76.

150 yards and closer most people arent nearly efficient enough to shoot a 76.

we'll see what he says though :D
