This is a guide for running Diablo II on Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Windows XP
Diablo 2 and Lord of Expansion were optimized for Windows XP, so you should not run into any problems.
1.
Run Diablo 2 in Administrator Mode
2.
Patch the game by pushing the Battle.net button when you are at the main-menu to update your game to the latest patch.
Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8
We will first locate your Diablo 2 installation folder. By default, it is usually located following these directions:
1.
Click "Start"
2.
Click "My Computer"
3.
Click "Local Disk (C:)"
4.
Click "Program Files" if you're running a 32-bit system, or "Program Files (x86)" if you're running a 64 bit system.
5.
Click "Diablo II"
6.
Right-click "D2VidTst" and select "Run As Administrator"
7.
Run the "D2VidTst" and select "Run Test"
8.
Once the test is done, select "Direct3D" and click "OK"
If your Diablo II fails to run, it may need to run with DirectDraw2D. Follow these directions below:
1.
Click "Start"
2.
Click "My Computer"
3.
Click "Local Disk (C:)"
4.
Click "Program Files" if you're running a 32-bit system, or "Program Files (x86)" if you're running a 64 bit system.
5.
Click "Diablo II"
6.
Right-click "D2VidTst" and select "Run As Administrator"
7.
Run the "D2VidTst" and select "Run Test"
8.
Once the test is done, select "DirectDraw(2D)" and click "OK"
If your Diablo II fails to start when running in "DirectDraw(2D)" mode, follow these instructions below to bring all compatibility options to Windows XP standards.
1.
Locate your Diablo II Shortcut
2.
Right-click your Diablo II Shortcut
3.
Select 'Properties'
4.
Select the 'Compatability' tab
5.
Adjust the tab so it looks like the one below
6.
Click 'Apply' and then click 'OK'
7.
You're now ready to play Diablo II!
