Montreal will have the option to receive Calgary's first-round pick in 2024 if the pick is outside of the top 20.
If Montreal declines to exercise this option or Calgary's first-round pick in 2024 is within the top 20, they will receive one of Calgary or Florida's first-round picks in 2025 or 2026.
If both Calgary and Florida's first-round picks in 2025 are outside of the top 10, Montreal will receive the earlier of the two.*

I don't think we'll know if they're better for a bit. I do think they're more a more well rounded team and will fare better against the Edmonton's and Colorados of the West.

Apparently Kadri's deal was in the works weeks ago, im guessing when those 7x7 rumors leaked. Brad needed to find a way to clear cap space, and trade away monahan. Which he finally did today.

Apparently it was originally rejected by the league due to the uncertainty of teams retaining certain picks, lol it's pretty complicated still but at least it's somewhat more certain.
