Realm Down & Temp Ban Reversal Guide by T3H

How to Get Rid of the Dreaded Realm Down on Battle.net

In order to do this, you must;
- Use a Router for your Internet
- Have Working Diablo II CD-Keys
- Have some basic understanding about computer's and their components

Step 1: Acknowledging the Realm Down vs. Temp Ban Connection Issue
There is a common misunderstanding between the "Temp Ban" and "Realm Down" Issues.
This guide will identify the differences between each of the connection issues.

Realm Down:

Temp Ban

Step 2: Making sure that you use a Router for your Internet Connection
You must make sure that you use a router for your internet connection, simple as that. If you do not know
An Easy way to figure this out if you do not already know is by clicking on:
Start Run Type: "cmd.exe" (no quotations) type "ipconfig" (no quotations) and press the "Enter / Return" Key
You should then see something like this:

IP Address - If you see a number beginning with 192.168, ( in some cases they may begin with 10. )then you are using a router.
Default Gateway - We will come back to this in the next step...

Step 3: Accessing Your Router/ Gateway Control Panel
As you saw in the previous step, in the "cmd prompt" I highlighted a area in purple.
You need to type the address into your Internet Browser's Address Bar. This will connect you to your Router's Control Panel.

Some common addresses for various types of Routers are:
Code
Linksys | 192.168.1.1
D-Link | 192.168.0.1
Netgear | 192.168.0.1
Belkin | 192.168.2.1
Don't see your type of router? Find it in the DEFAULT GATEWAY (Refer to step 2)

Step 4: Logging in to your Router's Control Panel
In most cases, the default crudentials to log in to your control panel is to do as follows:
Username: (leave this selection blank)
Password: admin

If it does not work, chances are you have changed it in the control panel previously, therefor you already know how to log in.

Step 5: DHCP Release
I use a Linksys router, so I will show screen shots for only Linksys Control Panels, however most Gateways are similar, so you should be able to figure it out.

Here is the first screen you will see upon entering the gateway

1 - Click on the "Status" Ribbon at the top of the page
2 - Scroll down, and click on DHCP Release

Step 6: Changing your MAC Address
Navigate back to the "Setup" Page ( Simply hit the 'back' button on your browser a few times )
1 - Click on MAC Address Clone in the sub-menu
2 - Change the last character of your MAC Address 1 character 'higher' ( A B , 3 4 , etc )

Here is an Image, You will want to mess around with the box, as shown.

Step 7: Applying Your New MAC Address
Unplug your MODEM
Wait ~ 5-10 Seconds
Plug in your MODEM
Wait for the MODEM to be fully powered on before proceeding to Step 8...

Step 8: DHCP Renew
Navigate back to the Status Ribbon on your Router's Control Panel ( Refer to Step 5 )
Click on DHCP Renew ( Refer to Step 5 )
If it doesn't work the first time, try Renewing again.
You will know when it works if you see a new IP Address, I am not posting a picture because you all don't need to know where I live

Step 9: Play Diablo II
Find your Diablo II Shortcut on your desktop
Double-click the icon
Connect to Battle.net
DO NOT experience temp ban/ realm down anymore!
Play, and donate me all your items! ( tee hee )

You may want to be careful how you word things.
I fail to see the "exact replica" aspect of the guide I created and the one you mentioned was similar to this..
Your words can get you into trouble eventually, if you aren't careful. ^^
