Hello hand.gif

I have decided to make a simple guide for any user who wants to learn more about the Melee style. I have made this guide broad so that it concentrates on the basic information needed to build a Melee character. Hopefully this helps users who want to play a Melee character can learn what the different mods on items do for the Melee build, and also learn what items each character can use, and the different starting stat points for all characters in the game. Trust me when I say, there will be many more things that users can read up on in the coming weeks! But first, it's time to learn the basics.

What are some the advantages of making a Melee character?
  • Melee characters have no use for Mana. When they have a heal charm equipped, they can use their Mana in order to gain back life. This allows for more battles before regen is needed.
  • The majority of the unlockable characters start with Melee-dominant stats. The gear setup that you purchase would be more useful if you play unlockable characters.
  • Melee characters benefit from "Life Steal." This is one of the most useful stats in the game. It allows for great life bonus in battle at high levels.
What are some the disadvantages of making a Melee character?
  • Melee items can be more expensive than Caster items.
  • Though Melee characters are much faster at lower levels, they are slower at higher levels.
The following list details every type of mod and rates it's usefulness, and when it's useful. Mods that are not useful whatsoever have been removed.

Enhanced Effect -- Important mod to get on your weapons. They add damage, which is what you use to kill. EE also helps if it's on Armor, as it increases the defense.
Strength -- Strength adds to the damage you do, much like EE. It is very important. Some players add points into it, some seek it on their gear. Both are wise moves.
Dexterity -- The most important mod for Melee characters. The majority of your points should be spent on it, and your gear setup (armor and charm) should revolve around it.
Vitality -- Vitality on items does NOT add to life, however it does increase your defense. Since most Melee builds can use medium/heavy armors, some Vitality on your items provide a minor bonus.
Intelligence -- This stat only benefits a Melee character's defense against Caster opponents.
Max Life -- This stat is immensely useful as it gives you more life to fight with, can allow for more battles per regen, and be the extra edge that you need to finish off a tough monster.
Experienced Gain -- This stat just gives a bonus to how much experience you gain from monsters. It's very unnoticiable unless you can amass a large quantity of it.
Magic Luck -- This stat is one of the biggest mysteries in Ladder Slasher. It doesn't help you kill, it doesn't help you defend, but it may help you find something very valuable.
Life Regen -- This helps your character regain Life, but it's NOT necessary on your combat gear. Try to look for items with just Life Regen on it to switch to for cheap and fast regeneration.
Extra Item Slots -- This helps your character pick up more items. Like Life Regen, this is not needed on your primary combat gear.
Critical Strike -- This can be a very important stat for Melee characters. It ignores the defense of the monster, resulting in massive damage.
Life per Combat Round -- This is such a useful stat for the Melee build. Your character gains life every round of combat, it keeps you in battle longer and allows for more fights.
Life per Kill -- Very important stat for low levels, though useful at all levels. This stat rewards your victory in battle with life.
Life Steal -- This is a favorite stat of the majority of users. It's very helpful when dealing with large attacks, as your character "steals" a lot of life.
Damage Return -- This stat is not something you should purposefully seek out, it just deals damage to the monster right after the monster deals damage to you.
Armor Pierce -- Another minor stat, allows to ignore target defense.
Block -- Your character has a chance to block a physical attack from a monster.
Critical Flux -- A very under appreciated stat, this ignores target Dexterity. This can be useful when dealing with Melee opponents.
Physical Damage Reduction / Magical Damage Reduction -- Reduces damage by listed % from the monster.

Below is a table that lists all of the unlockable characters, what the starting stats are, and what items they can use.
  • Rogue -- [ Strength-30 | Dexterity-60 | Intelligence-25 | Vitality-35 ] -- All Weapon Types, Robes, Leather Armors, Scale Armors.
  • Fighter -- [ Strength-50 | Dexterity-40 | Intelligence-10 | Vitality-50 ] -- Club, Sword, Axe, All Armor Types.
  • Barbarian -- [ Strength-60 | Dexterity-25 | Intelligence-5 | Vitality-60 ] -- Club, Sword, Axe, All Armor Types.
  • Magician -- [ Strength-20 | Dexterity-50 | Intelligence-60 | Vitality-20 ] -- Staff, Dagger, Robe only.
  • Samurai -- [  Strength-45  |  Dexterity-50  |  Intelligence-10  |  Vitality-50 ] -- Swords, Daggers, All Armor Types.
  • Paladin -- [  Strength-60  |  Dexterity-55  |  Intelligence-20  |  Vitality-55  ] --  Swords, Axes, Clubs, All Armor Types.
  • Monk -- [  Strength-40  | Dexterity-60  |  Intelligence-20  |  Vitality-40  ] --  Dagger, Staffs, Robe only.
  • Ninja -- [  Strength-40  |  Dexterity-70  |  Intelligence-15  |  Vitality-45  ] --  Sword, Dagger, Robe only.
  • Warlock -- [ Strength-15  |  Dexterity-45  |  Intelligence-80  |  Vitality-35  ] --  Staff, Robe only.
  • Headhunder -- [  Strength-60  |  Dexterity-75  |  Intelligence-5  |  Vitality-35  ] --  Axe, Leather Armor, Scale Armor and Robe.
  • Alchemist -- [  Strength-15  |  Dexterity-40  |  Intelligence-110  |  Vitality-15  ] -- No Weapon, Robe only.

There you have it. This is all the basic information that you need in order to determine if you would like to try to build a Melee character. This guide has shown you what items you can wear, what mods you should look for, and what stats you start with. It is important to remember there are infinite possibilities when it comes to how many different ways you can add your stat points to build your character. Please remember that this is just a simple guide that covers what exactly "Melee" is. Stick around to see some in-depth character guides that display just what you can build on Ladder Slasher. There will be many new guides, and some restructured and revamped guides from the past. I hope you enjoyed reading this, be sure to stay tuned! smile.gif

Use one color instead of the massive 'prettiness'

It´s viewed best in a darker theme.. smile.gif

Well over half of Jsp users still use the "Generic" theme~ make it as easy in that form.

Vitality -- Vitality does NOT add to life,
Imo rewrite that to

Vitality from items does NOT add to life, however it does increase your defense. Since most Melee builds can use medium/heavy armors, some Vitality on your items provide a minor bonus.

since if you stat vita you get life smile.gif
