--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1: CD-Key Issues:

Are you seeing the message "Your CD key is disabled from realm play"?
  • If you are receiving the error message, “Your CD key is disabled from realm play.” when trying to join or create a realm game, this indicates the CD-Key installed has been temporarily or permanently banned from playing realm games on Battle.net. Even though the CD-Key is restricted from playing realm games, you are still able to play Open Battle.net games.
  • Diablo II CD-Keys are regularly banned and accounts are closed due to hacking on Battle.net. In the case of the CD-Keys that were banned, at least one account tied to each CD-Key was identified as having used such a program while playing on Battle.net. First time offenders are banned from realm play for one month and repeat offenders are banned from realm play permanently. Users who are unsure if their CD-Key was temporarily or permanently banned will have to wait one month from the time the CD-Key was banned to determine the status.

Are you seeing "CD-Key in use by (Your Name)"?
  • If you get the message that your "CD-Key in use by [Your Name]", then you should only have to wait 15-30 minutes before reconnecting to Battle.net. This is usually caused by a recent disconnection from Battle.net. The [name] listed in this error message is not a Battle.net account name - it is the name entered when the game was installed. If this [name] is the one you entered, then Battle.net has not yet recognized that you have logged off of Battle.net. Also remember that each CD-Key can only be logged into Battle.net once, so be sure you have only installed your CD-Key on one machine.
  • If the problem persists, please try restarting your computer or powering your modem/router off and then back on. If you are unsure how to do this; please check the hardware documentation or contact the manufacturer directly for assistance.
  • If you have waited 30 minutes and the error still occurs, you may need to replace the CD-Key. Follow the steps below to request a replacement CD-Key.
Are you seeing "CD-Key in use by [another player]"?
  • If you get the message: "CD-Key in use by [another player]", then someone else may have used your CD-Key to install the game. The [name] listed in this error message is not a Battle.net account name - it is the name entered when the game was installed. If this [name] is not the one you entered, please reinstall the game to ensure the correct key is entered. If the CD-Key is still in use, you may need a replacement key. Follow the steps below to request a replacement CD-Key.
2: Character/Account Issues:

Character Expiration
  • A Diablo II character must be played in a game, or it will eventually expire. When you first create a character, it expires 10 days after the last time it was played. Once that character has been played for two hours or more, it will not expire until three months from the time it was last played. A character that expires may be deleted from the realm at any time.
Item loss or "poofing"
  • The corpse system on Battle.net has been updated to prioritize which of a player's multiple corpses will be saved, in case a player exits the game. While characters will still be allowed to have up to 16 corpses in any given game, the corpse with the most valuable equipment* will be the one that is saved when a user chooses to “Save & Exit” the game. Items on any other corpses will be lost.
  • Don't leave items or blue lying on the ground any longer than necessary. If at any time you get disconnected from Battle.net while items are still on the ground, there is no guarantee the items will remain when you rejoin the game. In most cases a disconnection will result in the loss of any items left on the ground. Whenever possible, use the trade window to transfer or trade items between characters.
  • If you have ever downloaded a third party program, such as a trainer, cheat, or hack, please be aware that most of these programs install a type of back door or Trojan virus into your system. This allows others to get your password and other important information for your system.
  • The Realm scans for duplicated items and may delete any duplicates that it finds. You might have traded for a duplicated item and it may have been deleted by our servers. Unfortunately there is no way to tell if an item is duplicated.
Account Expiration Information:
  • Inactive accounts are deleted at regular intervals. If you create a new account, you must be logged into Battle.net long enough (either in one session, or spread over several) to have accumulated 2 hours of time within the first 48 hours. After that, your account will remain active so long as you continue to log into this account once every three months.
  • After three months the account will go into an 'expired' status, at which time anyone else can create a new account using this now available account name. The servers also run routine maintenances which may also delete expired accounts. If an account has truly expired and been removed, or re-used such as mentioned above then it will not be recoverable.
3: General Information:

How do i use the extra buttons on my mouse, if any?
  • In order to use the extra buttons available on your mouse, you must use software provided with the mouse to map the extra buttons to keyboard strokes. You can then use the Diablo II Controls screen to map those key strokes to Diablo II actions.
  • To get to your Diablo II Controls screen, hit ESC when playing, select Options, then select Configure Controls.
  • Also note that, although Windows 2000 has native support for the IntelliPoint mouse, Win 95/98/NT users must have IntelliPoint drivers installed.
  • Those experiencing problems with the Logitech Mouse (ie: mouse shadows or jerky movement) should download and install the MS-IntelliPoint 3.1a mouse software.
What is "/DND" for?
  • The /dnd command is used to set Do Not Disturb which prevents any users from being able to whisper you. You can enter text after the /dnd which will be shown to any one attempting to whisper you. Example: /dnd playing a game would show "Playing a game" to anyone attempting to whisper you. Ensure you do not put any sensitive information after the /dnd as any one attempting to whisper you will see it.
4: Install/Uninstall issues:

Are you experiencing problems installing the game?
  • CRC or File read error: This will normally mean that the CD has a fault of some kind and our system is not able to read from the CD. You can try the CD in a different system to help identify if the CD is bad or not. If the CD does appear to be damaged.
  • Unable to write/create files: If you are using Windows XP/2000 or Mac OSX please make sure you are logged on as an administrator account when installing the game.
  • Try the installation in safe mode, this will prevent any other programs on the system from interfering with the installation.
  • Make sure that your system is free from viruses and spyware.
  • If you are still having problems installing, please make a note of the error that you are getting during installation and contact blizzard.
Is your installation of Diablo II taking an extremely long time?
  • If your installation of Diablo II is taking an extremely long time, you may have a background program causing a conflict with the installation. Often the conflicting software is a firewall or anti-virus program. Please close any anti-virus programs you have running prior to installing the game. If you are unsure how to close these applications, please contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
