For anyone who opposes gay marriage due to the argument that "gay people can't reproduce and fulfill the main value for the State in subsidizing marriage", I would like to ask: Would you approve or deny these marriage license applications?

1. Background: A man and woman are married, and they have 2 biological children together; currently ages 1 and 3. Then, tragically, one of the parents dies in a horrible accident, leaving the surviving parent to raise their children as a single parent. This goes on for two years until the surviving parent ends up in a new intimate (heterosexual) relationship with someone who has no children of their own. In their relationship together, they've also been able to integrate this new adult in a step-parent fashion with the two children, such that they are currently co-parenting these children and will be doing so for the foreseeable future. They would like to now get married themselves; however, they have no intention to have any biological children together--they simply will continue to raise the 2 aforementioned children together.

Net new children: 0 - Do you allow them to get married?

2. A homosexual couple has finalized all the necessary processes for surrogacy, and they'll be bringing a new child into the world soon who will be at least biologically related to one of the parents but not the other. This decision to become a parent was something that they intentionally decided and were motivated to do precisely because of their commitment, dreams, and plans for their future together.

Net new children: At least 1 - Do you allow them to get married?

i dont really like the premise of this thread, while i believe you to be the second most valuable person on the sub, no argument is needed against these vile people to support gay marriage

ill throw in a sprinkle of my own opinion though, i find the institution of marriage to be a little silly

The anti gay thing is primarily related to religion in the form of law

A lot of laws used to be founded based on religious morals of back in the day, and some people still believe in those.

The whole concept of "reproduction" for the human species is wayyyyy past the generic survival of the species logic and arguments.

The importance on 'reproduction' is quite interesting to me from a philosophical perspective. Why is it important that we continue as a species? What is it that we are hoping to achieve? Or, is it simply a giant sunk-cost fallacy and we're trying to prevent collapse of the level or kind of society we have achieved thus far?
