Go poison nova + max CE

Use trang Belt + Glove + Shield (set bonus -resist in shield)

Max block

Put a few pts into revive and 1 into summon resist

Yeah, you just recast bone armor periodically. Homunculus is not the shield for max block, that much is sure.

Homun has insane block chance actually, it's awesome for max block

Simple calculation, you have 75% block, you tele into moonlords, they hit 8 times, theoretically you'll get hit 2 times only but if you're unlucky, you might get hit 4 times or more. Imagine you also have defense enhancing like cold armor from a sorc. You have a 45% to get hit and 75% block, the the chance you'll get hit will be: 0.45 * 0.25 * 100% = 11.25%, that's much better than 25%. But there is still a chance you'll get hit in succession (Murphy's law), homunculus offers exactly 0, no fhr, no DR in case you get hit. You will be stuck in hit recovery animation while getting hit more. This is where spirit is clearly superior. It's very easy to reach 86fhr bp and tele away. Stormshield allows you to get hit more often before you die, you have more reaction time. Again, max block alone is only a chance.

Merc + Golem + Revives + Maxblock + Other fhr sources 🤷‍♂️

There's more than 1 way to build it, I've played necro early in ladder on a budget and max block with homoc was quite nice and didn't take much dex because of the super high block chance on the shield

I recommend poison nova + CE build w trangs anyways for the -25 poison resist set bonus

I have a friend who just 99d on Necro and he was rocking skeles with self wield beast and a thorns (bramble + edge) merc. CE was clearing dps but the thorns and skeles generated the snowball.

Bonespear for PvM is ehhhhhhhhhhhh

For the record. No tele yet.

I already had the 86% fhr break.

Only 75% fcr.

Max block cost me about 100 hps.

As the illustrious gentleman above mentioned,, I just did the den and am wholly underwhelmed.

I’m just wondering more whether these meat shields are worth it. I’m not geared or specced a summoner. The bone armor and current cure merc, I literally haven’t potted in days. Can these do any damage, because the damage output from spear is quite low.

Max block with no tele makes even less sense. As soon as you move, block chance is 25%
Pro tip: Have hotkeys for dim vision and decrepify. That's how you survive in hc.

MB is very dumb on a character that has both bone shield and like 20-30 meat shields through skeletons revived golem and merc.

If you are dying on nec, you are the problem, not that you don’t have MB.

Ease up. I’m not dying. This is HC.

I was asking about viability of the summon tree with limited investment. 30 meat shields sounds like a lot of unnecessary work for limited gain, but maybe you answered.

Are they necessary? And for what, offense or defense?

Just try this out yourself, tokens are cheap.

I think you’ll find max block is the way to go.

Of course, you can get unlucky and get hit 5 times in a row. The chances for that are 0.1% if you are standing still (and this assumes no defense) or 23% if you are running. In practice it doesn’t really happen and monster attacks very rarely land in such a short succession that you don’t have time to pot.

What’s much more likely is that max block will save you from a deadly archers’ volley when you’re amped and they have fana.
