How much armor do you y'all usually aim for? Is there a rule of thumb or does this change from build to build? Mitigating dmg spell suppression the real defense?

hard to answer, all depends do you play sc or hc, what build, playstyle , your farming strats, solo or group, skill etc

imo you should adjust defence in general to feel comfortable.

You will usually notice what you need while you play.
Evasion is a lottery mechanic where you either evade or take the hit.
Armor and resistances make you tougher.
High dps can also be considered a good defense, although even the dead can kill you.

Alrighty hmm probably why I felt tankier with armor, switched some pieces out for stats i liked but evasion base, my res are maxed with Chaos at 66% tho. Maxroll wants me to have this lightning coil I see with mitigating dmg and I notice alot of pieces they want me to use spell suppression

I have this werid deja vu feeling like I had one and sold it not understanding why I'd ever want -50 res

Imagine y'all could play poe again for the first time

phys taken as ele dmg = nice
-50 res is easily taken care of

The difference layers of mitigation interact with one another. The effective gain of adding more to one layer changes depending on your other layers. So there's no way of saying which one is better.
However, going full banana on evasion, however fun, is a stupid thing to do if you play hardcore.
Scrubcore, I wouldn't know. Never been to that weird place :l
