As for your divine orb question.

This math won't add up but think of a divine orb as a $100 bill.

You can sell it for about approx 160chaos orbs(dollar bills basically) The majority of leveling gear is 1-10chaos.

Once you finish the campaign buy buy as many divines as you need but 1 div should get you to level 80 with ease.

Do I buy gears from people in town. That is it?

no divine/chaos orbs are for trade with other players.. the town npc sell only junk
