I watch mainly Isekai, and have come across "Yggdrasil" mentioned.

The above I can confirm since re-watching, but, I also know there are others but don't recollect, so, would you readers know?

I don't think it is just based on Isekai genre, considering Yggdrasil is also from a game. But, I would not know.

both most recent god of war games use it because the term comes from norse mythos and last 2 games are in norse realms

Thanks, I had thought SAO had mentioned it, however I have not re-watched it again for verification.

Now as for gaming "God of War" ... I haven't played that, but I have friends that have... well friends that also played Final Fantasy VII and more, which I also see a resemblance in Yggdrasil or other anime (isekai) like the Chocobo reference in The Rising of the Shield Hero and filolios... especially the same musical when having a race. Those that have watched it will remember, also those that play or played FFVII will remember the music.

Yggdrasil is the Tree of Life from Norse mythology. The earliest I remember seeing the name in a game was a Starcraft unit, but World of Warcraft kind of copied with their "World Tree" but didn't use the Norse name
Anime's usually like using Norse mythology references for some reason. Might be a Japanese cultural thing
