Have experimented

Doesn't matter if I workout in the morning or later in the day

Any time I have relatively intense workouts (pre 7+ I estimate ) I don't sleep well for several days. Not as deep wake up much more often, not as tired (like when you wake up at 4 am but you're so tired you barely notice and go back to sleep.. when I wake up I'm much more awake at 4am)

If I don't work out for a week my sleep starts getting much better

I've tested this several times now

My laymans guess is your CNS being overtaxed/ having elevated cortisol levels. This can absolutely effect sleep quality.

A variety of factors can contribute, aside from your intense workouts themselves, ie. stress, lack of sufficient calories/hydration, not deloading at the right times, unhealthy habits, etc.

Cortisol from work out not gonna be elevated the whole day and into night time compared to an average day

Studies are pretty clear with sleep that regular exercise overall improves sleep hygiene

What I would is diary is what specifically are you doing different throughout your day on the days you work out. Example dietary changes, either eating at different times or different amounts or types. I see you said above you don’t consume caffeinated beverages but stimulants are in foods as well. What about sleep itself, I inferred you worked out in AM so the sleeping hours themselves on work out days are a bit different? Is there a way to maintain work outs but keep it traditionally during normal waking hours, if you don’t normally get up early on days you’re not working out? Hydration is another big one. Catalog what you are doing differently on your days you work out and I think you’ll get closer to the answer than something medically going on.

Yeah I'm the opposite. If I have a brutal leg day especially after a break of lifting where I'm gonna be very sore, I run the risk of sleeping through my alarm. lol
