If the Saudi league pulls this off and actually offers that kind of money, is football dead? What stops them from doing this for every player? That kind of money is so out of this world ridiculous that nobody could ever say no to that. With basically an unlimited supply of money, that kind of money could draw any player in my opinion. Thank god they aren't qualified to play in the CL. One team/owners to blame for this- MAN CITY

There's no way this lasts. Plus Europe will always produce stellar players. They won't be missing these guys that are leaving.

i genuinely can't imagine any european football fan watching their games just because some ageing / greedy stars followed the oil money into the desert. china at least had a huge domestic market to sell their product to (and still failed).

just another sportswashing operation by a human rights abusing, temporarily wealthy shithole. might produce some headlines during the transfer period and even get some screen time through off season friendlies, but once the real leagues start again, everyone will forget about them, and rightfully so.

i don't think it's anywhere close to as dangerous to club football as all the newly rich sheikh clubs within the european leagues (psg, city, newcastle...) and super league plans are. those are the more concerning developments imo...

Saudii Arabia has a lot more money than China, plus the chinese government issued limitations on the import of foreign players (in order to boost the development of their own homegrown players), while Saudi Arabia is doing the opposite).

Bottom line, the situations are not comparable.

However, I don't think Saudi Arabia will be a threat to the CL or the EPL. They are essentially signing the players that the top european clubs don't want, and I don't think that will change for now.

It may become an issue for other leagues with less money, marketing and prestiege than the premier leaugue or the CL though, if this trend continues.
