1-2k I'm sure would suffice but just don't want overkill what I need

ten bucks

buy a cheap 0dte vertical put/call spread on SPX around 20 minutes before market close and if the market tanks or goes to new highs, you'll get some decent cash

might have to do a regular call or put that's OTM, as the vertical spreads are bit more than $10

or, do it right at market open and if you guess the direction correctly on the OTM call/put, you'll be able to scale that $10 and snowball it
