Is it ever a challenge in games? No. Its time commitment. They are vastly different things.

For the average player, the time commitment to reach 100 is still not something you can just give. The average person is playing video games probably like 8 hours a week and that might be spread across games.

The pinnacle boss is the real "level 99" equivalent of d2. Goodluck getting that anytime soon. Level 100 is the beginning to gearing up for this

Take into consideration that all areas are opened up, all bosses / monsters defeated, your stash is full of legendary items and all in a couple days. Also consider that trade is broken.

What's next, make new char and do it even faster because you know what's coming and you've got a stash full of shit already?
