stars give a temporal feeling when seeing a user's profile and/or name together with the icon. randomizing this degrades the entire process of setting your chosen star

Yes, would save me from constantly switching them after each post

You could say the same for orbs, which already have a randomizer lol.

True but stars also leave a static image for topic creation

Not a fan of the orb of rainbow either

I didn't think about your point of checking topics from the main forum, only from within a post.
It'd be pretty hard yeah. I latch onto topics from someone who would say, have 2 grey stars like myself.

It'd also hurt refreshing main forum pages
