Ok, do fighters need dex at all? The first fighter guide I found here said all dex everything, the next one I found said evenly split dex/strength, then I talked to a veteran player that said only strength. Can I please get some guidance? I just finished my first MQ (failed first door of course that’s my luck) and I had a somewhat evenly split dex/strength. So I’m climbing again and I want to do it right this time

If you need dex or str only depends on your choice of weapon:

Dagger -> Dex
Staff -> Dex
Club -> Str
Sword -> Str
Axe -> Str/Dex

Awesome thank you. I’m using swords, so I’ll do strength 3 levels in a row, then a dex. And repeat

No, you will only need to stat Strength, ignore the dex. :)

The ratio doesnt need to be kept. It is the value of the stats. So for swords 1str is about as good as 3 dex

Ratio: The highest stat reference increases your damage significantly... not the portion of the ratio which ONLY relates to "+% Critical Hit Chance". Thus constant damage output... Sword Ratio is 75 str / 25 dex ... so ONLY pump Strength, now Axe has a 50 50 ratio, thus you only increase the Highest stat YOUR character class has... so if you have higher starting stat to Strength with a character class that can use an Axe ... just pump Strength (and vice Versa... example is a Rogue that has High Dexterity).

If maintaining the ratio helps with critical hit chance, wouldn’t it make sense to maintain it on axes? Since both str or dex give 50/50 damage.

spear -> dex
polearm -> dex
battleaxe -> str/dex either or both

does absolutely nothing, has been tested by multiple people. Max strength or Max dex or 50/50 or anything in between = same damage and same crit chance, only thing to care about is trying to maintain even numbers for a tiny fraction of extra damage.

Also rex did not state to maintain the ratio, not sure where you got that part from. If that's from your own thinking, it's wrong but feel free to continue thinking it, as darkhunter said, it's generally true that 1 of your main stat is equal to 3 of a side stat.
So comparing a 50 strength with 10 dex charm to a 53 strength charm:
Clubs: Use 53 strength
Swords: 50 str 10 dex
axe: 50 str 10 dex
staff/dagger: Go out and buy a 35+ dex charm.

What would be true is saying statting the wrong stat increases your crit chance more than statting the right stat. However, as you can tell from the recommendation, it's better to stat the main stat of your weapon or vitality

You'd need in the region of 400 of your main stat on swords or staffs before the wrong stat starts dealing more damage thanks to crit, and closer to 1200 on clubs/daggers.
