Bears
Fields will take the next step as a passer thanks to an improved recieving corps and a greatly improved offensive line. During the 2022 season, the Bears made a decision to tank, and it paid off big time in the 2023 offseason. They ended up with the most cap space in the league and landed the top pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, which they traded for some fucking solid assets.
The real deal is that the Bears found some legit fucking talent on their O-line. Braxton Jones, a Day 3 rookie, was the highest fucking graded rookie tackle in the NFL, and Teven Jenkins was a fucking beast at guard. Plus, they brought in Nate Davis, a veteran guard who only allowed 14 fucking pressures and three sacks in 385 pass-blocking reps.
The Bears were able to fix their biggest problem by drafting Darnell Wright, a pro-ready right tackle, with the 10th pick in the NFL Draft. This dude was a fucking mauler on the ground, and he didn't allow a single fucking sack on 507 pass-blocking snaps against some of the toughest fucking edge rushers in the SEC.
If all these fucking pieces come together, the Bears could become a top-10 fucking offensive line by the end of the season. Combine the downfield threats of the skill positions with better protection and Fields' ability to scramble, the Chicago Bears are going to have a potent offense.
Khalil Herbert was dealing with some hip injury that made him miss four games last season. When he finally returned, Bears coach Matt Eberflus said:
"It's gonna be good to have our 1-2 punch back with Justin leading the run game,".
Herbert was the "2" in that 1-2 punch, but now that he's the top dog, it's easy to see him doing something big this year.
I mean, some folks might say he's already shocked everyone by averaging 5.7 fucking yards per carry, which was the best in the league among backs with enough carries to qualify for the rushing title. But with only 129 carries, some folks still saw him as a third-down or relief back who couldn't handle the entire fucking game.
Either way, Herbert's got more fresponsibility now that he's the clear No. 1 or sharing duties with D'Onta Foreman.
Here's how he handles responsibility:
In his first fucking season, when he got 18 or more carries in a game, Herbert averaged 4.41 yards per attempt. But in the other 13 games where he got 25 carries or less, he only averaged 3.6 yards per carry.
Last year, Herbert averaged 5.85 yards per carry when he had 110 attempts over nine games, with a minimum of seven rushes per game. In the other games where he had less than seven rushes, he still did pretty fucking well, but his average was 4.6 yards per carry. It's obvious that this dude gets way fucking better with more carries, which usually leads to longer runs and higher averages.
So yeah, expect Herbert to fucking capitalize on this chance to replace David Montgomery, who was only averaging 3.99 yards per fucking carry for his Chicago career. Herbert's gonna fucking kill it.
