I’d bet the game would be more dead without bots.
1) bnet profits off them - without the profit from banwaves over 20 years bnet may have never had the funds to even make d2r without microtransactions.
2) most people don’t have10 hours a day to pvm - I’d argue the majority of players want items quick and cheap — otherwise bots wouldn’t have any1 to sell to. Its profitable for a reason

Yeah totally. It sounds like a reasonable idea, right? Because it'd be crazy if something as awesome a you didn't live forever in the fever dream of a bunch of bloodthirsty primate descended morons who cooked up and reworked the idea over 100k years. Could heaven be a thing, sure, it'd be pretty disappointing though if the way the universe worked was that stupid. Probably the wrong forum/planet to try to have that conversation as like 95% of us are so desperately afraid not to exist they'd fork over endless funds and time to anyone who promises them they're eternal.

it could be a lot worse. most of the new products these days minting the new billionaires seem to be just gambling platforms and experiences, which extract a TON of money from participants while providing LESS dopamine than what sessions of d2r would give you. d2r might extract a lot of your time (and not really even that much...i find that I'm good with a single 99 in a given ladder season, which is a doable 1-3 week project), but it isn't going to make you homeless...at least more directly

i stopped playing at season 13? i believe and just started playing again, but in SINGLE PLAYER and good lord. its so much more enjoyable.

There were definitely less bots the first 4-6 weeks of D2R release that coupled with increased demand was incredibly fun, I agree later all seasons became trash.

There are people that live off bots, so I understand why they would do it, doesn’t mean I like it. I only came back due to ROTW, want to complete chronicle solo (zero public games), just something I want to do, 3 items left, might get too bored before I find them, we’ll see. After that I probably will quit again and consider D2R complete for me lol.
