PvP is the endgame. It always has been. Most players are PvM but PvP drives the whole ass economy on this site and has kept the game alive for 25 years.

This is true, but what the corp sees is this:
"How can we stop them from playing our old game, so they can purchase our new game instead?"

And after releasing bad games for 5-10 years they think like this:
"Maby we should try a short moment of nostalgic"

And then a little later:
"How can we lure the players from our nostalgic remake into our new game?"

Nostalgic remakes are only their way to make players start to look their way again, and its usually after like 50-80% playerloss.

I get this is a 25 year old game and some annoyance is part of the charm, but for streamlining PvP, instead of pooling manas in the Moor, what if people could just have their mercs always? The big problem is that mercs hit and sometimes hit hard. So removing their ability to deal and take damage to/from players would solve that problem. They should also remove the merc revival cost if a player dies in PvP and add an option to kill the merc (like unsummon) for purists.

It would ruin some novelty builds, but they already did that by killing town bears and leap.
