Do I understand correctly that -res on items like runeword "Doom" or facets applies directly to targets without 1/5 penalty unlike cold mastery?

Don’t use infinity. Always use insight since blizz is a mana hog. My blizz sorc hits around 15.5k blizz dmg and melts everything P8 with an insight merc.

I’ve also found that if you use a fathom, -res sunder is more beneficial

Cold sorc I think it’s better to max cold dmg and skip immunes as much as you can.

That's what I also read while researching cause cold res reduction items are less abundant compared to lightning/fire making damage output less significant to immunes.

I guess I might make a Doom then if someone doesn't convince me to do otherwise.

Doom sucks. With doom you only get 11.2k blizzard
With facet Deaths Fathom you get 15.5k blizzard

With a doom you will only do slightly more against cold immunes but with a fathom you do way more against everything

You also have to roll -60 on the doom to do slightly more against cold immunes. If you roll -40 you are just a cucked loser

Eh, I tested both using mid-grade gear and some leftovers my pvp blizzer wasn't using, and at least with the 1 pt cold mastery build I found doom outperforms fathom. At least in the zones I was running where cold immune high hp fuckers like the throne room ghouls dwell. -59 doom and 34/-5 fathom.



running nightwings doom vmagi spirit arach magefists and maras. I think BiS would be swap vmagi for blizz ormus and maras for a 2/10 ammy. Facets/new jewel in every slot ofc. The more +% cold damage you have, the less significant the gain is from +% dmg, while the more of a gain -res provides. Since the +% dmg applies to the blizz skill dmg without the other +% dmg modifiers being included in the calc.
