PVP -minus resist always better

PVM + dmg is better for cold and magic

the thinking that +magic skill dmg > -enemy magic res is based purely off of the fact that monsters with high magic resistance are very rare, so most of the time that -emr isn't as effective as it is for other resistances

however, on a fully geared character that +15% MSD will still have very little impact on your overall clear speed (on hdin I believe it contributes ~1%). so if you are farming areas where you end up dealing with magic resistance monsters, the -emr would contribute a greater %

so it's a bit more of a tossup than the way people are simplifying it. overall on my hammerdin I have 22k hammers while sticking with a -emr sunder and grabbing +msd elsewhere. the clearspeed i lose is negligble and then i have the peace of mind to go anywhere and not ever think about whether or not adding more -emr would be beneficial

want to ask you, if you have + 15% magic, is this only applying to base hammer dmg ? acting like 2 levels of concentration ?

the +15% magic skill dmg gets applied to the base skill, and that ends up getting multiplied against the concentration aura %. and each level of concentration aura % increases additively to that bucket

so yes at the end of the calculation, i haven't actually thought of contrasting 2 aura lvls that way but believe they end up essentially equivalent?

note though i went to double check via the d2r planner just now and the numbers i got between the two ended up slightly off, might be forgetting to account for something here going back and forth between d2 and d4 math but i don't think it would end up changing the gist of any of this at all
