The most recent NYPost article paints an entirely different picture of the deal which is being discussed right now:
https://nypost.com/2026/05/29/us-news/trump-says-us-naval-blockade-on-iran-will-now-be-lifted-as-he-heads-to-situation-room-for-final-determination/

- no tolls
- no US money going to Iran, only international funds currently held by Qatar being unfrozen
- mines in the Strait getting cleared
- the deal would punt on the issue of getting the nuclear material buried underneath the destroyed facilities out

So basically EVERYTHING that was already happening before the war started, except now international funds are being released by Qatar? So much winning.

Looks like Iran also backed out of any negotiations already, so dumpy was basically lying. Again.

Fertilizers remain up in farmers crop season. Either farmers get further fucked by this administration or the price flows through to us the consumer and once again the middle class and below are disproportionately impacted once again.

Higher costs to run the equipment and higher costs of fertilizer coming off it.

Farmers are always complaining despite being one of the most tax advantaged classes in the country and sitting on millions in assets. It's a business that doesn't yield profit every year for most. Every year there is some kind of farmer crisis alarmist. I do feel for the smaller farmers being inched out by big agriculture and anti-right-to-repair, but these folks got it good if theyve done diligence.

Virtually every country in the world subsidizes its farming sector for domestic and also geopolitical reasons. Domestic, because food shortages are the quickest way to political instability and revolution. And geostrategic, because a high dependence on food imports is a catastrophic and exploitable weakness for any nation.

It's often subsidized to help it be more robust to larger scale things like a famine, dust bowl, etc. Farmers increasingly asking for subsidies because the larger fiscal picture of our economy has squeezed the hell out of farmers, seems more a leading indicator that all industries are facing it. I think the problem is you have regular residential homeowners dipping into the farmer tax credits by doing little s*** like removing a little buckthorn or planting some native saplings that never grow.

It's actually quite absurd to think the US could have a food crisis given our territory. But our leaders have managed to make it happen before
