Polling indicates that about \(14\%\) to \(22\%\) of Americans have become estranged from family members due to political disagreements. Cutting off family over politics heavily depends on political ideology and age, with liberals and younger adults significantly more likely to sever ties than conservatives and older generations.Nationwide polling trends reveal key behavioral patterns:Overall Estrangement: Recent national surveys show that \(1in5\) Americans are currently estranged from family members over political arguments, and roughly \(40\%\) of adults report having experienced a "political breakup" with someone in their social circle.Ideological Divides: The likelihood of cutting off relatives varies sharply by political leanings. Polling by The Argument showed that roughly half (\(50\%\)) of liberal-identifying voters believe it is acceptable to cut off family members over opposing views, compared to just \(19\%\) of moderates and \(11\%\) of conservatives. Another national study from the American Survey Center found very liberal Americans were more than twice as likely to cut off relatives as very conservative respondents.Generational Differences: Younger demographics are more prone to navigating political conflict through estrangement. Among liberals under 45, nearly three-quarters find ending relationships over politics acceptable.Alternative Actions: Rather than entirely cutting ties, many Americans mitigate political stress by skipping family gatherings (roughly \(19\%\)) or blocking relatives on social media (\(22\%\)

That's the biggest sign of being in a cult. Even when shown evidence contrary to your beliefs you deny it.

My approach is completely different I must admit. Say there are 100 topics in total in the world, If you can have a good conversation with a family member about 90 topics, and 9 topics are argument inducing and 1 topic is i hate you all my life, would you not simply decide, lets not talk about that one topic, lets agree to disagree on the other 9 and we still have 90 topics to discuss?

You do realize how cult like that sounds right? Your projection is kinda nuts.

Anyone who disagrees with me is crazy or undeserving of anything because they ignore the narrative.

Cancelation of people who disagree with you.

Essentially worshipping sexual orientation, sexual acts and identity making it more important than even family relations or nuance.

Abortion can be viewed a "sacrifice" by anyone with any theological understanding regardless of their own belief systems.

It's quite literally the pot calling the kettle black.

And yes, some of these things happen on the right. The degree in which it does is significantly less and it's blatantly obvious.

I was a leftist for years until asking questions got me shunned.

If your argument is just "nuh uh, Trump bad" over and over, that clearly doesn't work because he's the president now.

I say this with love, you really need to chedk yourself.

And no, I don't even like Trump, I just hoped for the best because I want America as a whole to succeed not just particular groups.

it's ridiculous to call politics simply a topic of discussion

if my uncle and I discuss hitler, and he opines that hitler was a great man with good morals and ideals, that is a bigger problem than disagreeing on one topic
