The best human speedrunners use what limited map assets they've uncovered so far to probabilistically determine which layout they are in. Using these visual cues and known map layouts is not against ToS, so why not let a script do it?

This is NOT a maphack. Maphacks read game memory, try to uncover the map seed, then match that map seed to the uncovered map from another d2 client. But this program doesn't do any of that- it just mimics what the best human player would do, and overlays the most probable map with opacity proportional to uncertainty. Also, unlike bots, this program never sends any commands to D2R, just places a visual overlay somwhere.

So, is such a program against ToS? Has Blizzard banned people taking frequent screenshots in D2R?

It would take screenshots. Do you know the context in which people got banned for reading pixels? I think they were probably botting, in which case, idk what they were banned for- running code on pixel data, or sending robotic commands to the game window.

yeah they were botting. but if you release something like this, they will definitely ban for it.

if you keep it for yourself, you will probably be fine.
