Is Logic discovered or invented or both/neither?

For discovered - this side proponents (logical realists) argue that logical truths and relationships are inherent in the universe and existent irrespective of human thought. Often citing law of non contradiction as an observable reality. The logic works because it reflects the fundamental rules the universe operates under. Which implies they existed before humans conceptualize them.

For invented ‐ Instrumentalist and formalist viewpoints suggest that logic was invented as a human construct to systematize reasoning. In this view, while the underlying patterns of valid inference may be universal, the specific formal systems (such as Aristotelian syllogisms or Boolean algebra) are human-made tools or languages designed to model those patterns. Just as mathematics uses invented notation to describe discovered quantities, logic is seen as an invented symbolic framework used to analyze and communicate valid arguments.

For both/neither - Some argue the truths of logic are often considered discovered realities of valid inference, while the formal languages and systems used to express them are invented by humans.
