Do kills by summons apply the character's magic find? Or is there another mechanic? Just wanna make sure before I decide of i wanna play tainted warlock :P

I believe yes, and merc kills add their mf on top of yours.

No you must equip the MF gear on the summons

Works with pets, same as your merc.
If an IG is summoned from an item with bonus magic find, his kills are, like merc, your combined mf%.

However, it does not work for kills made by converted or temporarily realigned monsters.
