Did you know Australia has an estimated 3/4 to 1 million camels, possibly the most of any country? They are so adept at traveling in dry conditions they were imported and heavily relied upon before cars existed, after which they were released and, without native predators (ironic given Australia's lethal reputation), the population grew to harmful levels as they compete for sparse resources, draining and fouling watering holes and such. There have been large scale efforts to reduce the population. There was also a somewhat infamous camel race across the outback, and a documentary you can find on YouTube about it.
