https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/kevin-gonzalez-dies-after-reuniting-detained-parents-mexico-cancer-rcna344531An immigration story.
>two mexicans cross illegally into the US and have a child here
>their son gets US citizenship by birthright, by the parents are deported
>he moves back to mexico to be with them
>when he becomes sick, he travels to the US as a citizen and gets our free healthcare, and finds out he has terminal cancer
>his parents try to illegally cross into the US again multiple times and get caught and detained for criminal re-entry
>he flies back to mexico while his parents are detained
>the US government agrees to release his parents back to mexico on compassionate grounds, even though they committed numerous crimes
Leftists look at a story like this and comment on how heartless and disgusting our immigration system is, how we're so cruel to separate this family
The right looks at this story and wonders why we didn't have a wall finished 20 years ago
In a sane world, with all actors performing according to their duties, these parents should have only have been allowed to see their son if the state could guarantee a consular visit or escort to ensure their return to detention pending charges for their crimes. Giving criminals a free pass because of their personal tragedies is suicidal empathy distillate, compassion should only extend to allowances that don't prevent laws being enforced. If someone in prison for check forgery has a terminal child in another country, maybe the government
can arrange a visit on compassionate grounds, but it isn't a reason to release them on their own recognizance and let them escape scot free.
